World Mission
Whitley Bay Baptist Church, like all Baptist Union churches, is committed to spreading the good news of Jesus throughout the world.
We seek to achieve this through support of two particular organisations through annually budgeted giving and/or special offerings. We are also a Fairtrade Church which means that, as far as possible, we seek to use fairly traded products in our activities. We have also supported other organisations through the involvement of individuals in the church family who have been called to short-term overseas service (from between 3 weeks to 12 months) with various of organisations. In recent years this has taken people to Peru, Uganda, Colombia & Kenya.
BMS World Mission
Formerly known as the Baptist Missionary Society, BMS World Mission works in some 40 countries throughout the world in Christian ministry & evangelism, education, medicine and assisting people establish sustainable lifestyles.
Tearfund
Tearfund is a Christian relief and development agency working with a global network of local churches to help eradicate poverty. When necessary it is involved in disaster relief. Tearfund’s concern for the world’s poorest people has led inexorably to its involvement in Climate change issues.
Fairtrade & Traidcraft
Whitley Bay Baptist Church is registered as a Fairtrade Church which means we seek to use Fairtrade products as far as possible.
As a Church that supports BMS, Tearfund and Fairtrade we also support the Jubilee Debt Campaign. Several members of the Church are on the committee of the Jubilee Debt Campaign’s North-East Committee. The Campaign aims to call Governments of the “western” world to redress the injustices that arise from the indebtedness of the world’s poorest nations through the cancellation of such debt.
