Purpose Driven

Whitley Bay Baptist Church is committed to becoming a Purpose Driven Church. This means that we pay particular attention to the Great Commandment and Great Commission of Jesus. We believe that a growing church is a healthy church and a healthy church is one which holds five key values in balance. We have adopted these purposes after following “40 Days of Purpose” in 2004 and “40 Days of Community” in 2006.

The Great Commandment
Love the Lord your God with all your heart.. .soul.. . and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: love your neighbour as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:36 - 40

The Great Commission
Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to do everything I have commanded you.” Mathew 28:19 - 20

We therefore seek to maintain five key values in the life of our Church, each based on a phrase taken from one of those two texts:

Worship - “Love God with all your heart”
We believe worship and prayer lie at the heart of the life of the Church.
The focus our hearts and minds on God and His plans for us.

Service - “Love your neighbour as yourself”
We believe every Christian has been uniquely shaped for service, and has natural talents and Spirit-given gifts to be used within the Church as it reaches out in service to the world.

Evangelism - “Go. ..make disciples”
We believe the Church of God is called to offer the good news of Jesus through sharing our faith in Him. We believe that this will be most effective through building genuine relationships of friendship. We use the Alpha Course as a key tool for evangelism.

Fellowship - “Baptising them”
We encourage all those who come to faith to be baptised by immersion in water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and invite those who make Whitley Bay Baptist Church their ‘spiritual home’ to share fully through accepting the privileges and responsibilities of Church Membership. All those seeking to become members attend a Membership Matters course.

Discipleship - “Teaching them”
We believe all Christians need a more intimate place to learn about the faith, to grow and to share. We therefore place a high priority on small groups within the life of the Church.
