Church Membership Covenant

At Whitley Bay Baptist Church we ask all prospective Church Members to accept the following Membership Covenant:

Having received Christ as my Lord and Saviour and been baptised, and being in agreement with the Statement of Purpose of Whitley Bay Baptist Church I now feel led by the Holy Spirit to unite with the Whitley Bay Baptist Church church family. In doing so, I commit myself to God and to the other members to do the following:

(1) I will protect the unity of our church:
by acting in love toward other members
by supporting and encouraging the leaders
by refusing to gossip

Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. (Romans 14:19)

You have sincere love for your fellow believers, love one another deeply, from the heart. (1 Pet 1:22)

Be responsive to your pastoral leaders. Listen to their counsel. They are alert to the conditions of your lives and work under the strict supervision of God. Contribute to the joy of their leadership, not its drudgery. (Hebrews 13.17, The Message)

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Eph 4:29)

(2) I will share the responsibility of our church:
by praying for its growth
by inviting the uncommitted to attend
by warmly welcoming those who visit

To the church-… We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. (1 Th 1:1-2)

Then the master told his servant, 'Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full. (Luke 14:23)

Accept (welcome) one another, then, just as Christ accepted (welcomed) you, in order to bring praise to God. (Romans 15:7)

(3) I will serve the ministry of our church:
by developing a servant's heart
by sharing my faith
by discovering my gifts and talents
by being equipped to serve through the church’s programme of nurture

Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who…made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant….. (Phil 2.4-5, 7)

But how can people call for help if they don’t know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven’t heard of the One to be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them? (Rom 10.14, The Message)

Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others (1 Pet 4:10)

(God) gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. (Eph 4:11-12)

(4) I will support the testimony of our church:
by living a godly life
by giving regularly
by faithfully attending opportunities for worship and fellowship

Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. (Phil 1:27)

Now about the collection for God's people:… On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income. (1 Cor 16:2)

Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Heb 10:25)
